Florida CraftArt exhibit shines a light on environmental issues

In recent years, environmental issues have come to the fore. To add to this important conversation, Florida CraftArt’s latest exhibition “Committed to the Environment” aims to address the relationship between humans and our natural environment.

“There are a lot of artists who work on social issues of some sort or think and do work that involves a problem that is relevant to our present time. Climate change and the environment are hot topics and on everyone’s mind, ”says Katie Deits, executive director of Florida CraftArt.

The 36 artists selected for this exhibition, open until October 23, approach the theme of the environment from different angles, inspired by the animal kingdom as Julia Galloway does with her series of urns on endangered species. or even tackle the theme of recycling, as with Nick Reale’s chairs in locally sourced wood.

Florida CraftArt also engages the community with free educational programming that coincides with shows made possible through support from sponsors Kathryn Howd and Edward Rucks, David and Becky Ramsey, Regions Bank, City of St. Petersburg, and the Arts and Entertainment Division. Florida culture.

“Artists are the first to notice the problems in the world. This exhibit is a great way to approach environmental issues as it is a visual way to reach people. It will have a deep emotional impact which will have more effect on the viewer. We hope that in addition to the artists, the people who visit this exhibition will understand the message and be motivated to do more to help the planet, ”said Deits.
