1 The Director General (DG) of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), Dr. Rufus Ebegba, assured Nigerians on Tuesday that his center would tackle the persistent environmental problems in the country.
2 Ebegba said this at the inauguration of the Rufus Ebegba Center (REC) for Leadership and Environmental Sustainability and book launch in Abuja.
3 News Agency of Nigeria reports that the book is titled “Developmental Drive and Strategies, Solution Approach”.
4 The DG said that without an ideal environment, man cannot survive, therefore the environment is where all human beings live.
5 He said his vision is to see how a world where leadership is always there for people can be created.
6 Ebegba said despite threats in the country, citizens have a duty to leadership.
seven In his own speech, Senate Vice President Ovie Omo-Agege praised Ebegba’s efforts to unveil the center and launch the book.
8 Omo-Agege, represented by his chief of staff, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, urged everyone to participate in the development of the country and not leave it to the government alone.
9 The Emir of Nasarawa, Malam Ibrahim Jibril, urged Nigerians to take environmental issues seriously as they were priorities that impacted humans.
ten Jibril, who was also a former Minister of Environment, said environmental problems were brought about by climate change and impacted the socio-economic activities of Nigerians.
11 The Emir commended the DG for establishing the center where research could be conducted on environmental issues and sustainability.
12 The Director General of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha, said that writing a book and establishing a center was a legacy from which everyone could benefit.
13 Mustapha praised Ebegba for designing a center that would transform the lives of people in the country.
14 “Touching people’s lives is something that not everyone has the ability to do,” he said.
15 Environment Minister Dr. Mohammed Abdullahi said the center would offer a lot in the field of biosafety, biotechnology, biosafety and bioregulation on genetic applications in the country.
16 Abdullahi who was represented by his special assistant on the environment, Mr. Abdulkadir Abdullahi promised to support the center.
17 The book’s reviewer, Professor Peter Anyaegbu, said the book was a real tool for conscientious politicians, civil servants and students of various courses.
18 Anyaegbu said the book classically deals with the state of Nigeria today and offers solutions to the challenges in order to achieve a viable and stable economy in Nigeria.
